Welcome to Soul Food: a healing blog for well-being, resilience and post-traumatic growth

Here I would like to share with you some resources that can help foster your understanding of mental health and trauma, build compassion and support our well-being. This is for anyone who wants to feel more connected to themselves and is seeking healing and growth. In particular, it is for anyone, like me, who is a global nomad or expat, trying to find their way and navigate issues away from "home".

A little bit about me: counsellor, anthropologist and global nomad

Let me tell you a little bit about myself.

I'm a psychological counsellor (and anthropologist), passionate about well-being and relationships, as well as healing, resilience and how our experiences are shaped by the culture or cultures we are nested in. I find it deeply humbling to work with trauma; the human spirit reveals such hope and resilience. I am also drawn to nature, creativity and writing.

I find that I bring my work as an anthropologist with me when counselling. My own research on marriage and divorce (I spent two years observing in a divorce court) taught me a great deal and inspired me to embark on my current journey to accompany people going through interpersonal, and other, difficulties.

I live in Montpellier, France, with my husband and two children, but have also lived in Geneva, Paris, Tunisia, Buenos Aires, Madrid, Singapore and Donaueschingen, as well as the UK, where I grew up.

Some little facts about me:

  • I LOVE flamingos - that represent so much to me. (I will reveal more about this one in due course!)

  • I play piano and love writing songs. Music has been a great source of healing and creative expression for me.

  • I look for glimmers every day and make an effort to fully absorb and savour the little joys in life. (Today = watching carpenter bees feed on brilliant red poppies in the park)

  • I see being endlessly curious and open to learning as a superpower, and feel very grateful that my work allows me to indulge in this constantly.

You are welcome to come here for some ideas, thoughts or exercises to nourish you, whether you are struggling at the moment or looking to boost your self-care.
